Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: John Adams struggles with the Continental Congress over declaring independence.

Biased, pithy comments: I love this movie, but I recognize some of its shortcomings. I love the characters, the music, the subject matter, and the plot, but a musical like this in many ways really ought to be on stage. There are a few ill-advised 70s movie conventions, and anything involving our forefathers (and -mothers) runs into trouble with whether it accurately portrays those involved, but I found this engaging and enjoyable, and a great introduction to America's history and the characters therein. It really leads you to worry about an outcome that we all learned about in grade school.

Other Notes: I also recommend, for those intrigued, reading the real letters Abagail and John Adams wrote to one another.

How many times I have seen it: x3 plus audio

Starring: William Daniels, Howard Da Silva, Ken Howard, Virginia Vestoff.
Directed by: Peter H. Hunt
