Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Aristocrat boy falls for daughter of revolutionary during the end of British colonialism.
Biased, pithy comments: I don't have a lot to compare this to, so I can't recommend this without reservations (i.e., this was fun, but I have no idea if that bad parts were endemic to Indian popular cinema or this particular production). However, there is a charming romance between the two leads (the woman is better than the guy), some catchy songs (yup, it's a romance), and some solid action at the end. It's sort of a movie for everyone---the teenagers can identify with the star cross'd lovers, the young men can see the call to action against the unforgiveable British, the adults can find themselves in the older characters, and so forth. It's long as all get out, though, and in the version I saw, they didn't subtitle the songs, which was really annoying.
Other Notes: Hindi, with subtitles. Some of the action near the end was exciting, but a little nonsensical---what did he expect to gain, exactly, by opening fire on the soldiers?
How many times I have seen it: x1
