Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: A meta-movie about a director who can't figure out what to make a movie about.
Biased, pithy comments: There are some wonderful moments in this film, lines of dialog, facial expressions, in-jokes, and more, but I found the movie very ponderous and slightly sleep-inducing. Perhaps I'm missing something of great importance, but my bias towards movies with plots, stories, and coherency and my bias against self-indulgent movies-about-movies and against rambling pieces of art that talk about how meaningless art is means I didn't like this as much as real film-criticism types did. I didn't like James Joyce, and I didn't really groove very well to this movie, either. Your mileage may vary.
Other Notes: In essence, everyone loves this movie and I found it ponderous but interesting.
