Ace Ventura, When Nature Calls(1995)

Wolff rating: MOSTLY HARMLESS

Plot summary: Ace is called out of self-imposed retirement to find a missing sacred animal for an African tribe.

Biased, pithy comments: The first ``Ace'' movie was pretty funny; I have fond memories of laughing pretty hard at some pretty mindless humor. Somehow, the first time, Jim Carrey literally talking out of his ass was amusing. This time around, though, it was no longer a somewhat normal story being investigated by Fletch on speed, but rather a total fantasy set exclusively in Jim Carrey's ego. I only laughed out loud twice while seeing the film, and was bored or cringing at the rest. (I'll only give one laugh away---Ace sprinting away from dart-wielding bad guys; watching Carrey pretend like curare had deadened his limbs was pretty darn funny.) No, as far as goofy lowbrow farces go, this isn't the one to see. Skip it and see ``Austin Powers'' again.

Other Notes: The animals were cute and well-trained, though. See ``George of the Jungle'' instead of this film.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Jim Carrey, Ian McNeice, Simon Callow, Maynard Eziashi, Bob Gunton.
Directed by: Steve Oedekerk
