Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: The classic Woody Allen-is-insecure-about-women movie.
Biased, pithy comments: This is a very, very clever movie from beginning to end. Allen is somehow likeable in his shiftless, self-centered way, and Keaton is both rich in nuance and entirely believeable. The movie keeps stepping in and out of moviedom, in and out of narrative, and in and out of slapstick, but it is still an all-time classic Allen. It does, however, serve to remind us how stupid and indulgent the 70s were---mantras, drugs and really bad hair.
Other Notes: Sneezing scene was unscripted but really, really funny, so the director left it in.
How many times I have seen it: x2
Starring: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Tony Roberts, Carol Kane, and (blink and you'll miss him) a young Jeff Goldblum.
Directed by: Woody Allen
