Backtrack(1989)

Wolff rating: FAIR

Plot summary: Conceptual artist sees murder and finds herself on the run from the mob, but her neighborhood hitman finds her fascinating.

Biased, pithy comments: Creepy at times and a few wonderfully targetted moments of violence. Generally, however, this is pretty vapid entertainment (despite being entertaining)---Foster sports far more lingere than necessary, Hopper is so deep in his cliche he's lost all perspective, and the movie takes forever to get moving. In a post-Tarantino era, you've got to do better than portray hitmen and mobsters like this.

Other Notes: Hopper hated the release cut of this film, but liked the TV one better.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Dennis Hopper, Jodie Foster, Dean Stockwell, Vincent Price.
Directed by: Dennis Hopper
