Wolff rating: THIGH-WRENCHING
Plot summary: Four staggeringly stupid prostitutes in the old West run from the law and their problems and run into an evil cowboy and a train and a nice rancher and a prospector and well, the movie doesn't really have a *plot*, but more of a sequence.
Biased, pithy comments: In the same way *Lost Continent* makes you think of rock climbing, this movie makes you think of horse riding. No one reread the script before they started shooting, and the acting talents of Mary Stuart Masterson are completely lost. No one else manages to do anything other than use guns to solve their immediate problem and a lot of shooting happens for no real provocation. The audience isn't clear either, since the rabid feminism would be lost on a ``Babes with Guns'' audience and the ``Babes with Guns'' stuff (plus the lame justification for their problems) would repulse feminists who want to see {\it Thelma \& Louise}. Also, the opening exposition and character set-up takes 55 of the 105 minutes, leaving little time for any sort of plot or theme. The title doesn't lie; this movie is very bad.
Other Notes: Run away! Run away! I read a book from the producer (Linda Obst) who came in during production and rescued it from meltdown. She's quite proud that the movie, as horrendous as it is, sort of works, since it almost wasn't at all.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Drew Barrymore, Madeline Stowe, Angie MacDowell, Mary Stuart Masterson
