Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Tale of young film student who dances with the big time and Hollywood and finds it more complicated than it should be.
Biased, pithy comments: I knew I was going to like this movie when I saw the student films in t during the award banquet near the beginning. The films were exactly the kind of pompous, self-important (and indulgent) films that you see coming out of the heads of college students. As the movie continues, we get more flashes of the movie-creating mind of the main character as well as several choice hits on the inanity of Hollywood and its denizens. This is a really light film that manages to be a little cliche even as it's being funny; certainly other Guest films are probably funnier. However, this is a great film for people who love movies, for anyone trying to pursue a creative endeavor that requires a large influx of money to make happen, and for Angelinos.
Other Notes: Cameos all over the place. My only casting complaint was Longstreth; she had the parody moments just right, but was flat and squirm-inducing when in the real world.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Kevin Bacon, Emily Longstreth, Michael McKean, Jennifer Jason Leigh, J. T. Walsh.
Directed by: Christopher Guest
