Blue Light, The(1931)

Wolff rating: EVIL

Plot summary: Strange, bestial woman with too-short skirt (Riefenstahl herself) climbs around on mountains while nasty Austrian man causes trouble; makes ``Lost Continent'' seem brief by comparison.

Biased, pithy comments: This German tragedy has left much to be desired. An example of the ``mountain film'', it spends most of its time with inane music and strange, confusing posturing. It shows its fascist tendencies by playing happy-Nazi music every time the Aryan character walks onto the film. There are plenty of sexual overtones---secret untouched caves violated by men, etc. etc.

Other Notes: In German, called `Das Blaue Licht.'

How many times I have seen it: x2

Starring: Leni Riefenstahl
Directed by: Leni Riefenstahl
