Bridget Jones's Diary(2001)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Hedonistic woman deals with romantic entanglements as encroaching spinsterhood latches on to her.

Biased, pithy comments: It's really fun. I have no other real commentary on it---oh, sure, I could go on about how odd Zellweger looked with some meat on her bones and how funny she sounded with her convincing London accent, but it wouldn't get you anywhere, so just go see this. Women and men will like it; it's funny, has great characters, and has a great pace. My complaint is mostly that the relationship between Jones and the guy she ends up with is not well explained---the script, actors, music, and pacing knew that this was the right guy, but the audience had not been entirely informed. But it's a minor flaw in a great movie.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Gemma Jones, Jim Broadbent.
Directed by: Sharon Maguire
