Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary: A creative-but-clumsy bug sets out on a journey to the big city to find some samurai (whoops! I meant big bugs) to protect his fellow ants.
Biased, pithy comments: Delightful, really, is the only word that could be used to describe this movie. From the photorealistic rendering on the plants to the wild-ride pacing, this is a fun movie for kids and adults. One could pick nits (ha ha, what a pun) about the science (the ants, for instance, only have four limbs instead of six, and in real life all worker ants are female) but one would be missing the point. The voice talents are wonderful (David Hyde Pierce has probably the best part in the film as the walking stick), and the outtakes at the end during the credits are worth some fraction of the admission cost. See this film.
Other Notes: One can draw parallels in this film to ``Toy Story,'' but in this case they chose to forego the weak songs and instead fill it with more action. Our showing included a short, ``Geri's Game.''
