Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: A love triangle between a sultry baseball mistress, a brash out-of-control newcomer with an arm of gold, and a grizzled vetran of the minor leagues.
Biased, pithy comments: A sweet, sweet movie about baseball, people in love, and people in love with baseball. With richly-drawn characters, wonderful attention to detail, and a strange emphasis on retro---despite radar guns and Porsches, the feel of the minor leagues is more 40s than 80s from wooden lockers to aging buses to Sarandon's World War II dresses---this is a sexy movie that is mostly romance, despite the fact that Sarandon always looks more elegant than southern-belle cute. Baseball is a truly American sport, and Shelton knows Americana, slow southern accents, and women who love baseball players. Sometimes almost too languid, but very good; good date movie.
Other Notes: ``I was lured.''
