Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: A hitman is asked to kill a woman, but the only problem is that she wants to die.
Biased, pithy comments: This movie is almost great. It's mostly great. Nearly great. Possibly great. But not quite. What's missing? Mostly the rest of the movie. This seems like a sketch, a vignette, a moment in the life of this hitman who must have more to him than what we see, and likewise this is a moment in the life of this woman who clearly knows more than what she's telling. But the without that background, with only that hint of depth tacked on to yet-another-hitman-with-emotional-problems plot, it seems like an unfinished tale, a maudlin idea in the back of a director's notebook that he'll flesh out someday. That, and I found Craven's character a mistake; unlike the rest of the characters, he should seem more real and less, well, craven. But, a beautiful vigniette for what it is; rich acting by both the two leads with some solid dialogue.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Anthony LaPaglia, Mimi Rogers, Matt Craven, Peter Boyle, and the beautiful Monika Schnarre.
