Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: A photographer goes to Armenia to take pictures of churches.
Biased, pithy comments: Talking about the plot of an Atom Egoyan film is, in my opinion, a mistake. Don't read any reviews. Watch the movie, and be enraptured as it gracefully unfolds, each petal becoming slowly visible, and only at the end do we see the entire flower. Egoyan has a fantastic eye---he can look at a church and at a woman (in this case, his real life wife) and *see* it, make you look at every part, evoking emotion with movements of a camera. The characters are rich and well-acted, most especially Khanjian (the translator). This movie is a puzzle box, told in a way that uses its medium very richly. If ever you wonder what's going on, just wait and you'll figure it out. Eventually.
Other Notes: Egoyan's wife, Khanjian, appears in all of his movies. Egoyan is also an Egyptian-born Armenian-Canadian, like his character.
