Cemetery Man (Dellamorte, Dellamore)(1994)

Wolff rating: FAIR

Plot summary: Cemetery engineer Francesco Dellamorte takes care of a graveyard where the residents don't stay underground.

Biased, pithy comments: I was disappointed in this film, but not because it didn't have soul or wit. But, I just didn't have as good a time as I wanted to---there was lots of angst-ridden pose-striking by the screenplay, but Everett's world-weariness drags the movie down rather than cleverly winking at us. It was also that strange combination of lots happening with an intricate plot, but I ended up looking at my watch halfway through wondering how much longer I had. This isn't really a typical horror film, either; this is really an existential play on the order of ``No Exit,'' which I think added to my failure to have a good time. And, when I felt I should have been enlightened, I found it obvious. Yes, love's a bitch and then you die, but that's no reason to get us all down about it.

Other Notes: Apparently the third in a series of icky dead-people movies made in Italy. Extremely gory, lots of matter-of-fact zombie-maiming with various handy implements.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Rupert Everett, Francois Hadji-Lazaro, Anna Falchi, Fabiana Formica.
Directed by: Michele Soavi
