Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: Lonely outpost in New Mexico is warped and changed by the brewing Civil War.
Biased, pithy comments: I'm not really qualified to review this show, but I can say that I found it engrossing and interesting. So many movies these days don't really delve into character building so they can concentrate on action, and though this isn't exactly Shakespeare, there is definitely a feeling as if you know these one-note people by the end. The story, set in worrisome times before the Civil War, is rife with people torn by their loyalty to their country and to their state. Perhaps lost is the part of the girlfriend, who is mostly window dressing for the men doing men-like things. Treatment of Indians is surprisingly realistic---they are pawns in the white men's games for power. Essentially, it's a western, but I haven't seen many from this era, so I thought it was quite good.
