Wolff Movie Index

Cool Hand Luke(1967)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Man sent to southern prison gang fights misery with fellow inmates.

Biased, pithy comments: I'm beginning to understand the 60s a little more as I watch more and more movies from the 60s. This is the story of a man who has lost his way---or never really had a way in the first place. He has no faith in anyone, anything, or any religion. This loss of faith enrages those that try to enclose him, and we find the immoveable object and irrestistable force in play again. It's a fascinating movie acted nearly perfectly by both Newman and Kennedy (who I had seen most recently in ``Naked Gun'' movies). See it.

Other Notes: ``It's for your own good.'' ``I wish you'd stop being so good to me, Captain.''

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Paul Newman, George Kennedy, J.D. Cannon, Robert Drivas, Lou Antonio , Strother Martin, Harry Dean Stanton, Dennis Hopper, Morgan Woodward, Clifton James, and Jo Van Fleet.
Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg
