Cool Runnings(1993)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Jamaican sprinters get together with a burnout bobsledder to form the first Jamaican bobsled team.

Biased, pithy comments: This is an amusingly batty show---a feel-good sports story with four sledders and Candy at their helm. I liked it, felt good, but realized that this was a story that has been told before in other contexts (and frequently). Since it's a Disney-funded fantasy (though the Jamaicans really did enter the bobsled race, it's not clear the story really unfolded this way), the themes of racism in winter sports didn't surface except in one or two statements. Interesting, but hardly a significant film at any level.

Other Notes: Score by Hans Zimmer.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: John Candy, Doug E. Doug.
