Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Annoying brother-in-law comes to the Australian outback with his young wife and completely fails to fit in.
Biased, pithy comments: Based on ``Uncle Vanya'', the classic Chekov comic tragedy, this film gets more of the comedy right than it does the tragedy. The filmwork is frankly pretty bland, but the acting is excellent and the situations don't seem strained in this transplanted epic. Not exciting, not exactly new by any means, but still an effective story done quite well.
Other Notes: Director Blakemore plays Alexander. Only in the movies is Kerry Fox plain or unattractive.
