Cowboy Way, The(1994)

Wolff rating: MOSTLY HARMLESS

Plot summary: A pair of New Mexico cowboys go to New York to find their illegal immigrant buddy to help him get his (illegally immigrated) daughter back from The Bad Guys.

Biased, pithy comments: Ditzy. That's what this movie is. Though it's supposed to be a fantasy (for New Yorkers), the fish-out-of-water wears thin soon and we're left wondering why in heck the hard-nosed NYPD is tolerating these yokels. The plot uses the immigrants' tragic stories as backdrop to the (admittedly engaging) leads' hijinks, and even a good performance by Sam Shaw in a thankless role as a mounted policeman runs dry. Except for the lush production values and Sutherland's hard work, this is a dumb, dumb movie. If you're looking for brainless, weakly-plotted action held up by solid stars, I suggest ``I Love Trouble'' instead.

Other Notes: So, like, why weren't they hauling Nacho's body home in the very last scene? Are they just going to leave him in the morgue? Ah, I'm just kvetching about details.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Woody Harrelson, Kiefer Sutherland, Ernie Hudson, Cara Buono.
Directed by: Gregg Champion
