Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary: Complex sexual interweavings of upper class French people in the 18th century end in blood and destruction.
Biased, pithy comments: Wonderfully directed and acted, Close and Markovitch play a tense battle among each other and share a fascinating relationship. Although the flowing French names are confusing at the beginning, the movie quickly settles down and gets nastier and nastier, exposing the darker side of already sinister characters.
Other Notes: This movie drives home the fact that Glenn Close looks really, really odd.
