Wolff Movie Index

Donnie Brasco(1997)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Dramatization of FBI sting on the New York mob in the late 70s.

Biased, pithy comments: Depp and Pacino have a fantastic chemistry on screen---this is indeed the story of two friends caught up in something that they're not sure they completely like. Depp shows signs of a conscience that Pacino doesn't, but they both feel the bond of two men who depend entirely on one another. Aside from the moral story of this tale, we also have a slightly-less-convincing wife, Anne Heche, who is dragging at Depp's descent into the underworld. The costumes and sets are perfect late 70s, and the dialog is snappy and tight, teaching you how to speak like a mobster as Depp learns the ropes. See this.

Other Notes: Fahgetaboudit.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Michael Madsen, Bruno Kirby, James Russo, Anne Heche.
