Double Indemnity(1944)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Insurance agent plots with second wife against her husband.

Biased, pithy comments: You know it's Raymond Chandler and Billy Wilder when you find yourself rooting for the bad guys---MacMurray and Stanwyck have real chemistry, and you hope against hope that their classic noir house of cards won't collapse around them. With sparkling dialogue and excellent cinematography, this is the some of the best noir available. My only complaint is that I kept having flashbacks (flashforwards?) to ``Body Heat'' (which steals from this movie) and ``Fatal Instinct'' (which lampoons it).

Other Notes: Based loosely on real events.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck, Edward G. Robinson, Jean Heather.
Directed by: Billy Wilder
