Erin Brockovich(2000)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Woman goes up against PG\&E about polluted water.

Biased, pithy comments: Although the packaging talks bravely about a ``feisty mother'' who goes up against a ``giant corporation,'' this is actually a more subtle film than the ABC Movie of the Week plot summary. This is really about the growth of this truly abrasive woman who finally finds something meaningful to do with her life, but finds that dedication has its price. Soderbergh is a talented director and gives the film the same realistic feel that has characterized some of his other works, and Roberts comes off as a talented actress. However, the movie goes for the populist sentiment almost one-too-many-times, apparently attempting to cater to the ``Thelma And Louise'' public. I enjoyed it, though, and even without poisoning people, I can agree that PG\&E are a bunch of pirates.

Other Notes: Based on a true story, and fairly accurate. The real Brockovich can be seen as a waitress.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Julia Roberts, Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhard.
Directed by: Steven Soderbergh
