Escape from L.A.(1996)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Just like Escape from New York, our anti-hero Snake must find some plot coupon before time runs out in the ruins of a former megalopolis.

Biased, pithy comments: This is almost a great film. With slightly more attention to detail (some of the effects shots look terrible, some of the story rough around the edges), I would have had nothing to complain about. Russell, always one of my favorites, delivers as the sneering, monosyllabic Snake, while Corraface is a little bland playing his foil. There are some really cool moments showing the ruined city and some fun action and, surprisingly, a fairly complicated ending with plenty of double-crossing (some of which I could see coming, some of which I couldn't). This is, as far as I can remember, a better movie than ``Escape from N.Y.,'' but it's more of a remake than a sequel (a la ``Desperado''). End analysis---see this if you're a fan of the 80s dystopic anti-hero stuff like Mad Max, and the rest of you people will think the whole thing is fairly silly.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Kurt Russell, A.J. Langer, Steve Bsucemi, Georges Corface, Stacy Keach, Michelle Forbes, Pam Grier.
