Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary:
Biased, pithy comments: It's hard to talk about this movie without the secure knowledge that my audience has seen it, but let me say this---it is a movie with a high conceit that does it really, really well, and every embittered comment that Tyler Durden makes rings home even as it rings of fascism. If the same story had been told without the technical skill, it would have probably been unwatchably stupid, but Fincher pulls it off with verve. I think it's most like a modern day ``Dr. Strangelove''---social commentary through violent satire.
Other Notes: Some reviewers really responded to this movie, others were repulsed by the exploitative nature of the fighting scenes. The question is, like baring Theresa Randle in ``Girl 6'', is whether or not showing the exploitative act even as you condemn it as simple exploitation or required to describe the dangers. I don't know; I'm still pondering. It's certainly not a movie you can forget.
