Wolff Movie Index

Full Monty, The(1997)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Desperate unemployed steelworkers think they can put on a strip show to raise money and self-esteem.

Biased, pithy comments: Very simple, sweet movie much more about self-image, unemployment, and male ego than about stripping. Funny, yet you can see the real feeling beneath it; these men aren't stripping because they want to, but because they so desperately need *something*. Carlyle is almost totally unrecognizeable from his stint as Begbie in ``Trainspotting,'' and brings real feeling to his role as the good guy gone a little nuts from being out of work.

Other Notes: Last scene was apparently one take. Yorkshire accent sometimes thick, but it won't detract from the enjoyment of this film. See this!

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Robert Carlyle, Tom Wilkinson, Mark Addy, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Hugo Speer, Emily Woof.
Directed by: Peter Cattaneo
