Wolff Movie Index

Ghost World(2001)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Two girls who have graduated from high school follow random people about, but one of those people isn't random after a while.

Biased, pithy comments: Zwigoff is like an older, smarter version of Linklater; rather than exclusively dote on those that have failed to make the transition into adulthood (or ``selling out'' depending on your point of view), Zwigoff (from a story by Daniel Clowes) has included older misfits as objects of introspection (as well as pity and rejection). The story unfolds oddly and gets more and more interesting; perhaps its only failing is its end. Even then, the end works, but it just doesn't reflect the eye-popping Hindu musical opening. See it.

Other Notes: The comic shop is called the ``Zine-O-Phobia''.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi.
Directed by: Terry Zwigoff
