Ghost and the Darkness, The(1996)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: True story about an engineer who goes to Africa to build a bridge, but is plagued by two man-eating lions.

Biased, pithy comments: Amazing. The real story itself is pretty amazing, and this production is equally amazing. Scary, weird, and hauntingly beautiful in its cinematography, and attention to tiny details make it even neater. My only real complaints are that everyone has too-nice teeth for this century and Kilmer's accent keeps wandering on and off camera depending on which scene we're in.

Other Notes: Sound won Oscar. This film was critically panned pretty much for reminding people of ``Jaws'' but then not being Jaws. I haven't seen Jaws for years, so I guess I didn't have the same problem. Your milage may vary.

How many times I have seen it: x11

Starring: Val Kilmer, Michael Douglas, Tom Wilkinson, John Kani, Henry Cele.
Directed by: Stephen Hopkins
