Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary: A hacker is ``ghost-hacking'' (breaking into cyborg's brains/souls) top people during an international incident.
Biased, pithy comments: This is a beautiful, beautiful movie. Though stony-faced at time, with dark brooding characters that seem to exist largely to brood, it touches on the differences between what we think we are and what technology makes us. It also has some amazingly violent Rodriguez-style action sequences and a pretty twisted plot. My largest complaint was that I spent so much time watching this movie that I forgot to read the subtitles. Anime at its highest-brow (though a little dated theme-wise; some of this material was covered pretty thoroughly by Gibson and Sterling a while ago).
Other Notes: Japanese. Animated.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Many Japanese people whose names went by very quickly.
Directed by: Mamoru Oshii
