Godzilla vs. Megalon(1973)

Wolff rating: NIGHTMARE

Plot summary: Japanese men in rubber suits take on other Japanese men in rubber suits. This one seems to also include a robot that ``reprograms'' itself to get larger and join in the fray.

Biased, pithy comments: The 70s were not a beautiful era of film, and this low-budget monster flick is a standard deviation below the norm of that decade. Besides making almost no sense plot-wise, the crosscutting techniques that would normally increase tension instead make your head spin. The original Godzilla and early Gamera films have a sort of charm in a hokey way, but this is clearly an excuse to dress funny and jump on model tanks and bridges.

Other Notes: \MST, though I saw this one years ago when it was released US theatres. It didn't make any sense back then, either. ``You know, I'm supposed to be excited and all, but I can't help thinking of sweaty Japanese men.''

How many times I have seen it: x2

Starring: Katshuhiko Sasaki, Hiroyuki Kawase, Yutaka Hayashi.
Directed by: Jun Fukuda
