Good Man In Africa, A(1994)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Burnout British Foreign Serviceman is forced to bribe a country doctor in West Africa.

Biased, pithy comments: A vicious satire filled with over-the-top charicatures of the Brits in Africa, though picking a fictional country to avoid political troubles. Everyone is corrupt and amusingly half-crazed, but Connery's weight as the Great White Doctor isn't essentially funny and leaves the audience wondering if the bitter cliches are that with which we are supposed to leave the theatre. Still, worth a dark laugh for those of us amused, bitter cynics out there, and it wins a prize as one of the year's least-predictable movies.

Other Notes: Is it racist? Yes, but towards everyone so I guess it's OK then, right?

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: ?? Giles, John Lithgow, Sean Connery
