Wolff Movie Index

Hardboiled(1991(?!))

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Cop fights gun smugglers in Hong Kong as the mobsters realign themselves.

Biased, pithy comments: A very powerful movie, it also is a movie that doesn't make a lot of sense all the time. I suspect this is my own problem with the language barrier, plus my impending stuffiness. I just couldn't find myself engaged by the characters and a little dulled by the gigantic gunfest. Still, it's an action movie with a theme, something rarely found, but it still has some odd plot holes, or at least it did to me. A must-see for action afficianados, though; it has tons of great set pieces and some really innovative high-speed camerawork. I just wish I understood it better.

Other Notes: This isn't the movie to start with if you want to understand John Woo gunfest movies. I suggest ``A Better Tomorrow.''

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Chow Yun Fat
Directed by: John Woo
