Hidden in Silence(1996)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: True story of young woman who hides Jews from the Nazis during World War II.

Biased, pithy comments: There is something very compelling about the dramatic stories of rescue during the war. One begins to ponder the bravery of these common people asked to do something heroic, and wonders if one would be brave enough to do it yourself. Martin's accent sort of drifts around (and the choice to have accents at all is a little suspect, since theoretically everyone would be speaking Polish), but aside from that quibble this is a quality movie-of-the-week; not, perhaps, something I would rent at the video store, but certainly worth watching with your family or (in my case) while cooking.

Other Notes: One of the bit parts is played by the youngest of the real-life Jews in hiding.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Kellie Martin, Tom Radcliffe, Marion Ross, Jan Nemejovsky.
Directed by: Richard A. Colla
