Wolff rating: UNSURPASSED
Plot summary: Ex-wife of newspaper chief editor shows up with husband-to-be in tow, but finds herself sucked back into the newspaper game.
Biased, pithy comments: The word ``rapid fire'' was designed to describe this movie. Well, no, actually, it was designed to describe automatic weapons, but the point here is that the dialog (hilarious dialog, that is) flies out of the mouths of Grant and Russell so fast that you miss whole scenes because you're laughing too hard. This is one of Hawks' (and Grant's) finest films, and it's worth every minute. Lots of fun in-jokes---``You know, that guy who looks like that film actor---Ralph Bellamy''---spice it up. Based on the often-filmed play by Hecht and and MacArthur called ``The Front Page.'' Russell is perfect; watch for Abner Biberman as fast-talking criminal. See this film.
Other Notes: Remakes include the 1972 ``Switching Channels,'' which is good but ain't as much fun as this gem. ``Keep the one about the rooster---it's a human interest story.''
