Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: Two embittered white-collar men decide to take out their frustration with women on an innocent secretary that they plan to date and then dump.
Biased, pithy comments: The plot summary provided above (and on the movie poster and on the back of the video box) doesn't do the movie justice; it's actually less about the misogyny of all men as about the cruelty of one wolf on the sheep around him. The movie lurches queasily around the dating subplot, but is actually more effective with its portrayal of this aimless, boring project with its hive of worker bees stumbling about in a newly-painted, soulless office building and charmless WASP-y restaurants, with shrieking tribal drums and clarinets as the only musical accompaniment. Although the long takes and realistic dialog gave the movie a real punch in terms of versimilitude, overall it was a long slog through a not particularly pleasant place, which means this ain't a movie for everyone.
Other Notes: Elicted big buzz when it came out; people mistaking the fact that the movie is about men who hate women miss the point---it's more Dangerous Liasons than anything else. Icky sound editing; dialog lost in the background hums; ahh, the charm of low budgets.
