Independence Day(1996)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Aliens come on July 2nd and start tearing up the world, and humanity must band together to stop them.

Biased, pithy comments: Warning; most reviewers hated this movie. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth the next morning. But if you're looking for good-to-great special effects, some classic disaster movie scenes, evil aliens, and some seriously derivative work, this is your movie. Big summer no-brainer action film, and the SF part of its science-fiction heritage is what really prevents it from being something I'd really heartily recommend. The first two acts are great, but the last part of the movie is a weak finale. Keep expectations for SF low, and you'll have a good ride.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Will Smith, Bill Pullman, Victoria E. Fox, and a cast of thousands of extras
