Inspector Gadget(1999)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Security guard finds himself transformed into the ultimate crime-fighting machine.

Biased, pithy comments: I'll probably get hail for saying this, but I had a good time at this movie. I've seen just a few episodes of the cartoon and it would be a lie to call me an afficianado, so I didn't have high expectations going in. While the movie has numerous faults, most notably the inchohate action, daffy plot, and what is clearly a last-minute hack-job in the editing (telltale sign---moments in trailer don't appear in the film), it has an overall good nature and some laugh-out-loud lines, mostly delivered by Dr. Claw and his minions. While hardly a must-see, it's perhaps a cheap rental on an off day at your local movie store; you get a very short movie for your dollar (less than 70 minutes of real film) but a whole lotta computer special effects and not a few good lines.

Other Notes: ``You should be more specific.'' ``I haven't sucked up to anyone for 30 days!'' Hang around for the credits.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Matthew Broderick, Rupert Everett, Joely Fisher, Andy Dick
Directed by: David Kellogg
