Wolff Movie Index

Jackie Brown(1997)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Flight attendant running money for an illegal gun dealer finds herself caught between the cops and her employer.

Biased, pithy comments: Elmore Leonard can write, and Tarantino, in his first real gangster picture since ``Pulp Fiction,'' can film a movie. Besides being blessed *without* Tarantino swaggering around on camera, we get to see a beautiful, graceful woman (Grier) struggle with the problems of being old and passed over by society. We also get to see De Niro, Jackson, and Fonda swagger around like they were much smarter than they actually are, and we are treated to a twisted plot that even gives us a Rashomon-like view of the same scenes from different angles. The beginning is a little slow, perhaps, but otherwise this is a great film for those moody days.

Other Notes: Of the two Elmore Leonard movies released this year, I'd perhaps rate ``Out of Sight'' as a little punchier, but both are definitely worth seeing.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Pam Grier, Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Michael Keaton, Robert De Niro.
Directed by: Quentin Tarantino
