Wolff Movie Index

Kids(1995)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Camera follows downtown New York teens through a day filled with drugs and sex and almost no innocence.

Biased, pithy comments: As bleak as movies get, but very powerful. The camera manages to rarely judge but only record as a testament to how much society has failed to reach these kids. Pretty stomach-churning content though; the actors and extras look the ages they are portraying and the camera never, ever blinks. The major criticism I'm capable of leveling really is that the documentary parts seem to get in the way of the story, while the story gets in the way of the documentary feel.

Other Notes: Big warning to parents, teachers, etc. Very, very strong. As one reviewer pointed out, it's strange to think that kids are allowed to live this way but aren't allowed to see films about themselves.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: A cast of young people
