King Solomon's Mines(1950)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Woman hires African hunter to help her find her husband, who has disappeared in Deep Bush to look for the Mines.

Biased, pithy comments: This is a hard one to rate, since it isn't the least bit contemporary. It hearkens back to a day when you could make a whole movie into a vast nature film. The views of Africa in 1950 are precious enough, with lots of period dancing, amazing animals, and cool art-deco haircuts on the Watusi natives, but the movie has a plodding romance plot and poor pacing overall. Still, some really good footage and quite enjoyable, though not the best of that era by any means.

Other Notes: Best seen in 60mm.
