Wolff Movie Index

Lion in Winter, The(Early 70s(?))

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Henry II plots and counterplots against his wife Eleanor and their three sons.

Biased, pithy comments: A very intense character piece, rife with conflict, hatred, and love. Killer performances by O'Toole and Hepburn, and good support work by the rest of the cast. Lighting and camera angles speak of the 60s and 70s, but the rest of it is still as fresh as the day it was shot. Definitely see this one.

Other Notes: Nominated for slews of Oscars. Note a young Timothy Dalton in his screen debut.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn, Anthony Hopkins
