Biased, pithy comments: This is a dark, stark movie that moves slowly and grandly towards its inevitable end. It's probably too arty for its own good, leaving the viewer occasionally confused and often struggling to make out the poorly-mixed, accented dialogue, but in general it stands out as a confusing, sympathetic tragedy of Russian proportions.
