Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: Six women get together and talk mostly about sex.
Biased, pithy comments: Despite the title (chosen, I'm sure, to draw men into the audience despite its clear appeal to women), Lavin's directorial debut is a mixed bag. With solid performances from a few of the actresses (notably Stevenson, Cattrall, and Delany) and noisy, quickly-moving action, this is sort of ``The Breakfast Club'' for middle-aged women whose beauty is fading. There are a few sex scenes, and they are quite beautiful (examples of what sex scenes ought to be in movies---erotic, sexy, short, and intergal to what's going on), but otherwise it's a pretty unremarkable film. Rather than ending, it fades away, and we're not quite sure any of these women exist outside the confines of the film. Still, worth seeing from a filmmaking point of view---some really inspired moments saddled with an OK-to-blah script.
Other Notes: That's the writer-director being carried away on the front of the neighbor's car.
