Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Assasination plots, a kidnapping, and international intrigue.
Biased, pithy comments: An early Hitchcock picture more focused on thrills than suspense, this reads (at least in this decade) as sort of an early ``Ransom'' with a distinctly British touch. Despite some goofy moments (the chair-throwing fight probably ranks as the oddest moment) and some serious wow-time-has-passed bits (these days we have SWAT teams, real dentistry, and a total dearth of sun-worshippers), it's a good watch from beginning to end. I'm finding I like early Hitchcock more than I like later Hitchcock. Watch out for the later color remake; from all reports, the black-and-white one is the best.
Other Notes: Peter Lorre is so cool.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Leslie Banks, Edna Best, Peter Lorre, Frank Vosper.
Directed by: Alfred Hitchcock
