Men In Black II(2002)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: More Men In Black, this time against a very Japanese-style tentacle woman.

Biased, pithy comments: What do you say about movies like this? They're good enough to see and laugh at, but not really fantastic art. In fact, a heck of a lot, from a traditional sense, is wrong with the movie---the plot makes nearly no sense, some of the main characters are left underdeveloped, there are scads of special effects that don't contribute anything to the story (and in fact distract). However, it's got its heart in the right place, and Smith and Jones have fantastic chemistry and exquisite delivery and timing. Smith in particular is just funny to watch, and he's one of those people who you wish to have over for drinks as the best party guest ever. Now, you could find this movie mildly annoying instead of funny, and you'd probably right. It's not what it could be, and retreads a lot from the previous hit. But, dang it, I laughed, I had fun, it was briskly paced, and I got to see Lara Flynn Boyle's cleavage from a variety of angles. Disposable but fun.

Other Notes: ``And now I'm back... from outer space...''
