Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: Road movie about a loser sent to Mexico to retrieve a gun, while his girlfriend ends up in hot water.
Biased, pithy comments: This is a really strange movie. It oozes ``indie,'' from the cheaply-written scenes to the overdone dialog. Yet, there are Pitt, Roberts, and Gandolfini acting their hearts out in the middle of it. Likewise, the murky morality of the tale and unpredictability only adds to the surreal quality of the film. To me, it was a mishmash of genres that didn't quite add up (road movie plus psychoanalysis romp plus romance plus fable plus travel jokes not equal to whole movie), but your mileage may vary---I could see having a great evening at the movies with this film, but I doubt it will be seem so golden in a few years.
Other Notes: Was originally indie film, but big-budget stars got involved.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, James Gandolfini, J.K. Simmons, Bob Balaban, and numerous under-billed Mexicans and Mexican-Americans.
Directed by: Gore Verbinski
