Miami Rhapsody(1995)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Woman in south Florida watches her friends and relations go through numerous affairs and reflects on her own engagement.

Biased, pithy comments: Though I tire of movies about scriptwriters (yes, I know, they're writing what they know, but geez, guys, do a little research), Frankel's movie about a neurotic, Woody Allen-esque woman with a quick wit and more neuroses than an entire barrel of heebie-jeebies is funny and smart, if a little grim in its outlook on relationships in the 90s. Banderas is great (and the inside jokes about his apparent homosexuality are an amusing meta-joke), Parker is fine, and the story good but somewhat unfocused in the long run, and I sometimes just want to tell these neurotic characters to figure out what they want and just do it.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Sarah Jessica Parker, Gil Bellows, Antonio Banderas, Mia Farrow.
Directed by: David Frankel
