Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: A classic American Boy-Scout innocent is appoint to Senator, and finds himself at odds with politics-as-usual and Washington insider-ism.
Biased, pithy comments: Stewart is a little young and little skinny, but Arthur and Rains act their hearts out in this morality play on what makes America (and Americans) great. It has all the subtlety of a wartime drama (only it predates the war by a few months), but its earnestness is generally quite infectous.
Other Notes: Depiction of senators and reporters as thieves and drunks respectively is noted and approved, and was definitley NOT appreciated at the time it came out.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Claude Rains
Directed by: Frank Capra
