My Fellow Americans(1996)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Two ex-presidents who hate one another find themselves trying to clear each other's names.

Biased, pithy comments: I'm one of the only people who haven't seen ``Grumpier Old Men.'' Thus, this sort of buddies-who-hate-one-another movie seems fresher to me, or rather like a new shine on a 50s sort of comedy. The presidential gags work well, the cast is great (Garner is funny just brushing his teeth), and overall I laughed out loud several times at the writing. At the same time, one could easily dislike this movie for what it wasn't---it didn't take any political chances, the plot bordered on the preposterous, and it reaches for the dick joke when it could have done more. However, if you're looking for amusing, mindless entertainment, I had a good time watching this film, and you could too.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Jack Lemmon, James Garner, Dan Aykroyd, Wilford Brimley, and Lauren Bacall.
Directed by: Peter Segal
